Learning Objectives
In accordance with the training objectives set out in the course declaration, the course aims to provide the knowledge and historiographical method to teach the critical use of betrayed sources; indeed, it will have the specific objective of providing a full mastery of the methods of investigation through the reading and critical commentary of selected passages. Students will acquire the ability to orient themselves in the main issues of the discipline and to develop an adequate critical approach. Through guided reading of texts, students will acquire the foundations of a historiographical method indispensable for the continuation of their studies. On the behavioural side, students will be urged to actively participate in lessons in order to develop critical thinking, the ability to organise and expound on the issues addressed as well as argumentative skills.
Prerequisites
Ancient sources will be translated during the lessons but a good basic knowledge of Latin and ancient Greek is recommended.
Teaching Methods
Lectures with the aid of a dossier of literary sources, accompanied by power point presentations. Consistent with the learning objectives, the teachers will address topics of particular historical and historiographical relevance in order to stimulate the students' interest and increase their critical capabilities.
Further information
Regular and active participation in class is strongly recommended. Students are invited to meet the teachers at the appropriate reception times (published on the website) for any problems relating to the course. Non-attending students should contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course to agree on a specific programme.
Disabled students or students with learning disabilities are invited to contact the "UNIFI Include" desk in order to set up the course in the most appropriate manner for their specific needs. The agreed measures must be shared with the teacher in due time.
