Course Content
The course will deal with the history and definition of bioethics and its main theories. Some moral questions raised by biotechnological innovations in medicine, healthcare, and life sciences will be addressed.

Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide students with the ability to analyze bioethical issues and to apply philosophical knowledge to concrete cases in an interdisciplinary context. Furthermore, the course aims to provide tools to reach an independent and mature judgment on the moral issues addressed and to be able to discuss the main bioethical issues.
Prerequisites
Bachelor’s degree. Basic knowledge of ethics.

Type of Assessment
The final test will be oral. It aims to verify the correct assimilation of knowledge, the ability to apply the ethical-philosophical categories and reasoning to biomedical cases and to develop an autonomous thought on the topics addressed in the course.
Course program
The course will focus on the history, the definition, and the main theories and concepts of bioethics, as well as some specific issues such as as assisted fertilization, abortion, euthanasia, termination of medical treatments, enhancement, allocation of health resources, cloning, genetic modifications, stem cells, creation of human-animal chimeras.
