Course Content
The course will present a methodological framework of the discipline and an overview of phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical aspects of Italian language with a diachronic approach, giving particular attention to its varieties.

Teaching Methods
Lectures; lessons will partially involve the use of digital tools and its essential functions.
Further information
Attendance is required for at least 2/3rds of the course. No provisions and specific exams for non-attending students, except for part-time students (who must contact the professor at the beginning of the course in order to agree upon a specific program).
Type of Assessment
The exam is oral for all students, even those who do not attend lectures and exchange students (Erasmus and other programmes). The test consists of three questions on the following specific parts of the course: 1) methodological introduction and tools; 2) historical grammar; 3) history of the language and its formation. These three specific parts may be assessed by means of one or two complex questions which cover all the areas. During the exam, students may be asked to analyse materials discussed at lectures and made available through the e-learning platform.
Students must demonstrate sufficient knowledge in all three parts to pass the exam.
The marks obtained in the three parts are totalled to yield the final mark.
The exam is designed to test:
- Knowledge of the history of Italian language and its varieties;
- Knowledge of the various types of Italian linguistics tools;
- Knowledge of phonological, morphosyntactic, lexical and textual aspects of Italian language in its history;
- Ability to use the terminology of the discipline appropriately.
