Course Content
Issues and problems of Contemporary history.
The course aims to provide students with an introduction to
Contemporary history, focusing on some periods and topics of European
and World history of the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. Special
attention will be given to periodizations, sources, structural dynamics
(socio-economic, technological, environmental and cultural) and to the
interpretative categories.

Learning Objectives
The course provides students with some basic knowledge and a series of
keys to understanding the Contemporary age (continuity and
discontinuity, contexts, individual and collective actors, gender relations)
with the aim of stimulating the analysis of problems in different contexts,
the acquisition of specific terminology, the exercise of comparison and
the development of critical skills.

The exam will consist of an oral examination based on the knowledge of:

The examination will be oral. The exam methods are the same for
attending and non-attending students.
During the test the student must demonstrate a) to know periodicizations
and conceptual categories related to the program of the course; b) to
present the topics with properties of language and awareness of the
specific terminology; c) discuss the issues addressed with appropriate
references to the different contexts analyzed.

3. Citizenship in a historical perspective
4. Population and migrations
5. The Great War and the birth of the URSS
6. Comparing totalitarian systems
7. The history of the European unification
8. Cold war and decolonization
9. The Italian Republic
10. The “season of movements”
11. Terrorism
12. The rise of Chine in the globalized world
