Learning Objectives
The course is designed to provide the basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics of the blood and lymphatic system, in order to establish the biological basis for learning laboratory, the clinic and the principles of therapy

1. Hematopoiesis. Characterization of stem cells and the hematopoietic niche. The bone marrow biopsy. Therapeutic use of stem cells
2. Blood test: interpretation of parameters. Abnormalities circulating blood cells. Leukocytosis and leukopenia, general overview. Thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis, general overview.
3. Anemia. general framework, principles of classification. Characteristics of the main types of anemia. Principles of transfusion therapy.
4. Acute leukemia (myeloid and lymphoid). Classification of acute leukemia. Morphological , immunological, cytogenetic, molecular diagnostic approach. Principles of therapy.
5. Chronic myeloid leukemia. Clinical characteristics, diagnosis and therapy, molecular monitoring.
6. Chronic Myeloproliferative neoplasms. Clinical, molecular, principles of classification and diagnosis.
7. Lymphomas and chronic lymphoid leukemia. Clinical, molecular and principles of classification and diagnosis.
8. Monoclonal gammopathies. Clinical, molecular, principles of classification and diagnosis.
9. Thrombocytopenia. Clinical, molecular, principles of classification and diagnosis.
