Course Content
Chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques n protein purification and methods for measuring protein concentration. Experimental aspects of the most important techniques in protein characterization: secondary and tertiary structure through circular dichroism and fluorescence. Determination of the molecular mass and protein sequencing through mass spectrometry.

Learning Objectives
This course aims at providing the basis for the characterization of proteins starting from their purification based on their biochemical properties through chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques. Furthermore it gives insights into two methods of characterization such as mass spectrometry and circular dichorism.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the fundamentals of general chemistry and of biochemistry.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and laboratory practicals.
Type of Assessment
1.5-hour written exam based on multiple choice and open questions.
