Learning skills: to learn the basic concepts of the ways in which contemporary territories (and especially those where the studied languages are spoken) work.
Communication skills: to acquire the ability to describe, in both written and oral forms, the ways in which contemporary territories work.
Attitudinal skills: to develop the ability to think critically about the plethora of socially constructed notions that surround the concept of territory, with the aim of distinguish essential from non-essential notions.

Both tests are intended to test the adequate knowledge of the concepts and fundamentals of geography.
A sufficient mark must be achieved separately in each of the tests.

The assessment is both written and oral.
Written assessment:
The written assessment is compulsory for all the students, including both those attending and those non-attending classroom lectures.. The written assessment has to be taken before the oral one, and it will attest the deep knowledge of notions and concepts discussed in the textbook edited by J. D. FELLMANN, M. BJELLAND, A. GETIS, J. GETIS, Geografia umana, Milano, McGraw-Hill, 2011.
As it has been designed as a preliminary test, the schedule of the written assessment is different from the schedule of the oral one. One written test is scheduled either in January or in February; two are scheduled between May and July; one in September.
Students must sign up (on the apposite WebPages) for both the written and oral tests.
Those students signing up for Geography tests equivalent to 6 ECTS will be assessed only on notions and concepts discussed in the textbook chapters n. 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
It is highly recommended to study and practice with the aid of a high-quality geography atlas.
Oral assessment:
For students attending lectures: the oral test will assess the deep knowledge of concepts and notions discussed in all the lectures (tot: 30 hours).
For students allowed by University rules not to attend lectures: one or more books of the following list, for 300 pages at least.
