Learning Objectives
Knowledge and understanding: Students will acquire information and instruments related to biotechnology applied to plant pathology. Knowledge and understanding are developed with lectures and laboratory practices and exercises. Verification of training objective is achieved by an oral exam at the end of the course.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The ability to apply knowledge and understanding by the of students will be developed finalized to their involvement on working activities, to overcome the State examination for the registration to the Professional Order of Doctors of Agronomy and forestry, and to succesfully attend the II level Course of Biotechnolgy for agrifood and environment.

Lectures
1) Introduction to Plant Pathology: main concepts such as disease, signs and symptoms, Koch's postulates, main plant pathogens and their taxonomy.
2) Thematic language and main concepts, such as
pathogenicity/virulence, resistance/susceptibility, pathovar/forma specialis, race and cultivars, host/non host, disease triangle.
3) Biotechnology applied to Plant pathology to understand the molecular basis of host-pathogen dialogue and interaction, and to develop innovative and ecofriendly control methods: several examples.
4) Epidemiology, using traditional and molecular approaches
5) Diagnostics and identification, by conventional and molecular approaches.

1. Molecular diagnostic applied to plant pathogen detection and quantification.
2. Bioinformatic for genome, genes, transcriptomes and proteins mining, to search determinants related to pathogenicity, virulence and interaction host-pathogen and specificity, and plant pathogen evolution.
