The course will focus on key concepts and tools of anthropology such as culture, nature, body, ethnocentrism, relativism, systems of thought, forms of kinship, religious dimension, field research, ethnography.

Learning Objectives
The course aims to offer students basic knowledge relating to anthropological disciplines. An overview of the key concepts of cultural anthropology and applicable ethnographic methods will be offered to show how the anthropological gaze acts in contemporary world.

Further information
The intro nature of the teaching allows for the acquisition of the fundamental conceptual tools and basic methods of cultural anthropology. At the end of the course, the student will be able to describe the theoretical foundations of cultural anthropology; to present the main perspectives of anthropological reflection on culture, world views, cultural diversity; to recognize the main methodological tools (including participant observation and ethnographic writing).

Written exam with production of a paper.
Course program
The teaching is an introduction to the key concepts and tools of cultural anthropology, through the exposition of the key topics, focusing mainly on the problematic issues and on the interpretative categories that make anthropology an important reflection tool for the understanding of the contemporary world. The overall framework proposed will illustrate the theories, practices and languages of the discipline. The course also intends to propose critical analysis and action tools, encouraging the application of the tools learned to specific ethnographic cases treated in the reference texts.
