The course aims to stimulate the students to reflect in purposes, modes and functions of written communication and provide them with some tools useful for academic essay-writing.
Every session is divided into frontal lesson and practice, followed by class checks or class tests.
The lessons will mainly focus on formal letter writing and e-mail writing, lexicon, punctuation, text organization, text editing (editorial norms, quotations, notes, bibliography) and its revision.

- the course intends to offer a basic knowledge of some constitutive characteristics of the Italian language (spelling, lexicon, syntax), of the main text types (especially argumentative texts), of the main tools of linguistic consultation (bibliographical and information technology-based) and of the criteria of text editing.

- to acquire awareness as regards the use of language registers in relation to the means and the recipient.
- to acquire awareness when approaching the writing of an argumentative text.
- to acquire mastery in using and consulting the bibliographical and information technology-based tools concerning the course topics.
- to be able to respect the editing criteria of an academic essay functional to the writing of a graduation thesis.

Half of the total lessons will be frontal lessons whereas the remaining half will focus on workshop activities and correction of exercises previously assigned.
