The course will focus on the main phenomena and processes of the medieval age, stressing the most important chronological turns and conceptual cores, so as to convey the knowledge needed for the comprehension of the different European and Mediterranean societies

Students are required to study the textbook by Andrea Zorzi and one group of texts, of their own choosing among the ones listed below.
Students have to inform teachers in advance about the chosen group of texts, following the procedures explained during the lessons.

Lectures

Attending students must enrol in the course on Moodle, since the platform will be used for formal communication.
Attendance is required for at least two thirds of classes. No provisions and specific exams for non-attending students are established. Part time students are required to arrange a specific program with the teachers at the beginning of the course

Oral exam.

The examination will consist of questions aimed at assessing:
1) the understanding and knowledge of the assigned bibliography
2) the understanding and knowledge of the main historical processes, phenomena, events and dates
3) the critical and methodological skills acquired during the classes
4) the expression abilities, as well as the specific language and terminology proficiency

The final evaluation will result globally from the evaluations of the four aspects.

IMPORTANT: Students who are unable to attend classes (part time students, single courses) are required to arrange a specific program with the teachers in large advance

The course illustrates the main phenomena and processes of the medieval millennium, stressing the most important chronological turns and conceptual cores, so as to convey the knowledge needed for the comprehension of the different European and Mediterranean societies.
Each lesson will focus on specific historical topics and issues from Late Antiquity to High and Late Middle Ages, and connections will be constantly highlighted (causal links, interdependencies, contributory causes)
