The course aims to introduce the student to communication networks for industrial applications. In particular
• Fundamentals of telecommunications networks.
• Description of industrial communication protocols. Performance analysis.
• Introduction to the main components of automation systems: controllers and sensors / actuators.
• Programmable logic controllers (PLC): architecture, operation and programming.
• Wireless sensor networks for industrial applications.

The course aims to give the student a direct knowledge of the benefits that the use of information technology and telecommunications makes in the industrial field.

• Knowledge of basic theoretical concepts and practical tools of telecommunications networks for industrial applications.

• Ability to efficiently use the design of data communication systems and to adopt a Network logic in the assessment and solution of problems related to the information flow within industrial production processes.

Practical learning lessons are planned for the construction of an IoT sensor system that dialogues with a cloud-server.
Some optional seminar hours may be provided with

The exam consists of a written test lasting 2 hours.
